Mobile controls that don't fight your thumbs
Good touch controls disappear. You stop thinking about them and just play. Bad ones remind you every few seconds that your fingers cover half the screen. It's the difference between finishing a game and rage-quitting mission four.
Racing games are the clearest test. Neon Drift Circuit lets you tune steering sensitivity, and that one slider turned a twitchy mess into a joy. Compare that to games that lock you into a jittery tilt scheme with no options.
Strategy games have their own trap: selection. Ironline Command uses a forgiving drag-select and a pause button, which means chaos stays readable. Fiddly unit picking has killed more mobile RTS games than bad AI ever could.
When we review, we test controls in the least ideal conditions: standing on a bus, one hand on a rail. If a game survives that, it survives anything.
